As we noted yesterday in our review of Monday's Budget Forum session, the Prince Rupert Library received some good news from City Hall when it came to its financial prospects for the year ahead.
During the course of her presentation to the public, the City's Financial Officer Corinne Bomben outlined a late development from the City's financial review, noting of a change from a decision of earlier this year that will now see the City restore full funding to the Library.
The revised decision will be made official as part of the Budget Bylaw process in April.
Yesterday, Mayor Lee Brain made his rounds of some of the region's media outlets to offer up his notes on the funding announcement. Appearing on TV 7's dinner time newscast, the Mayor advised that the level was restored after the City had discovered that the city "was able to drop a few expenses".
During the course of his short interview with TV 7, Mayor Brain did not offer up any further indication as to what area of the city's financial review that those now dropped expenses came from.
In a short video clip from that TV7 newscast the Mayor outlined how Council reached its decision to restore funding, as well as his thoughts from the Budget Forum session.
During Monday's council session, both Joe Zelwitero the Chief Librarian and Devlin Fernandes of the Prince Rupert Library Board offered their thanks to Council for their work related to the financial challenges of the funding issue and for restoring the level of funding to its full content.
The Library funding issue proved to be one of the most contentious of budget decisions to this point, bringing out a large number of Library supporters to express their concerns at the January 25th Council session.
