With the need to fill a large volume of positions in Health Care in the province, the Coast Mountain College Foundation has created an Entrance award program to help reduce the cost of educations for students that start their studies at the college.

In response to the shortage of essential healthcare workers in Northwest communities, the CMTN Foundation  has announced plans to  provide 32 entrance awards of $1500 to all first-year nursing students for the Fall 2023 academic year.

“The pandemic was really hard on the nursing profession. The months of stress and exhaustion experienced by nurses have certainly affected the views of people wanting to go into the profession. Yet, healthcare remains critical in all the communities we serve. This Foundation award is great news! We hope to help people train here and remain in our communities doing this important work.” -- Dr. Titi Kunkel, Vice President, Academic, Students and International.

Towards the 2023 studies, each student who registers for the first year of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program at Coast Mountain College, and remains in their studies past the stable enrolment date of September 20, will receive a one-time entrance award of $1500.

The award will cover nearly 40% of the first year’s tuition. Applicants can also apply for other awards and bursaries to further subsidize their studies.

The program which is run through the main campus in Terrace and Coast Mountain College notes of the opportunities that the Northwest campus offers compared to other parts of the province.

In addition to awards and bursaries, nursing students are eligible to apply for on-campus housing in Terrace for $600 per month, which includes all amenities. This low-cost housing helps keep living costs substantially below what they might be in other parts of BC.

Applications for the Fall 2023 intake of the nursing program are open until March 30, 2023.
