North Coast Regional District has outlined some of the work that took place as part of their September Board session in their Prince Rupert, with a range of items of note for Haida Gwaii residents addressed during the evening session on the 17th.
Among the themes of note, a resolution to send a correspondence to the Ministry of Transpiration and Infrastructure related to additional livestock signal for public safety in the communities of Masset and Port Clements.
The Board outlined its success at gaining funding towards the UBCM Flood Mitigation Planning program, with the District to make use of $136,000 to engage in a flood mitigation plan for Sandspit and Tlell.
The Board also provided $10,000 in one time COVID Grant funding to the Haida Gwaii Mental Health and Addictions Advisory Committee to deliver community services.
The District will also support a funding application towards development and implementation of a summunity resiliency program and follow up as part of the recommendations from the Electoral Area D and E Community Wildfire Protection Plan.
And Lax Kw'alaams will gain the support of the Regional District, towards applications for a lease, temporary lease and statutory right of way for the development of system upgrades for the Lax Kw'alaams wastewater treatment plant.
Board Members also received a presentation on tourism themes with Clint Fraser, Chief Executive Director for Northern BC Tourism Association and John deWolf, Exhibit Designer, providing updates on two projects which are funded through B.C.’s Targeted Regional Tourism Development Initiative Fund:
The pair spoke towards the Thematic Framework for Northern BC and he Great Northern Circle Route Signage Master Plan & Signage Infrastructure project.

In addition to their business of September 17th, Regional District has provided its statement on the observation of National Truth and Reconciliation Day on Thursday, September 30th.

In their comments, the members of the District encouraged residents to participate in Orange Shirt Day while honouring the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, as well the District has provided some resources for resident of the North Coast and Haida Gwaii to review related to the commemorations for Thursday.
