After a closure of fourteen days, the District of Port Edward reopened the community Boat Launch on Porpoise Drive, returning the facility to service on Friday, September 24th.

The popular and vital boat launch site had been closed after two abandoned vessels had drifted to the facility making it dangerous at the time for public use. With the two vessels now secured for now, boaters can once again access the site.

The update was posted to the District of Por Edward Facebook page, noting that the Prince Rupert Port Authority had advised the District that the boat launch was safe for public use.

As the notice states, planning is underway to bring about the removal of the two vessels which have been a long standing irritant for the District and a topic of frequent discussion in the past.

While the Prince Rupert Port Authority works on its removal plan, access to Federal officials may be complicated in the short term, owing to some changes ahead for the Cabinet.

In the recent Federal election Bernadette Jordan, the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, lost her seat in the House of Commons.

A loss of a cabinet minister that means that the Prime Minister will now be looking for yet another new face to take on the challenging portfolio that has seen many ministers in recent years.

You can find updates on the boat launch and the two vessels of concern through the District of Port Edward Facebook page.
