Progress being made towards planning for replacement of Prince Rupert Middle School

SD52 officials heard details this week of the ongoing work towards a
Report for the Ministry of Education on the quest for a new Middle School

The first meeting for 2019-2020 of the Board of Education for SD52 on Tuesday evening, provided for some welcome news.

As Secretary-Treasurer Cam McIntyre reported on the district’s progress on the work ahead towards submitting a Project Development Report to the Ministry of Education part of the process required for the replacement building for Prince Rupert Middle School.

The report is a required element before replacement of the school can be approved by the Provincial Ministry.

In order to submit the report the district must first identify where the school will be built and demonstrate that it has access to that site.

At their Tuesday meeting, Mr. McIntyre noted that it is working with the City of Prince Rupert to finalize the selection of an appropriate site for the replacement school.

Though the School District did not indicate in their report from Tuesday's Board meeting where the site under consideration is located.

This work has included a traffic study (in progress) and draft agreements, which must be completed before a Public Information Meeting can be held and the Project Development Report can be submitted.

As we observed on the blog on September 5th, the MLA Jennifer Rice had noted that the province was awaiting more information from the School District before any replacement plans can begin to take shape.
