The City of Prince Rupert has released its 2020 list of Property Tax Exemptions, with the total value of the 47 exemptions listed for this year coming close to the 363,000 dollar mark.
From the list, seventeen entries are related to Places of Worship in the community, which account for $11,211 of the total exemption value for the year.
The remainder of the list is made up of mix of social, cultural, education and other services or societies.
The largest exemptions belong to:
Prince Rupert Performing Arts Society ($118,781.40)
Museum of Northern BC ($43,978),
Jim Pattison Ltd. for the Canfisco Municipal Boat Launch ($31,690.51)
Prince Rupert Golf Club ($30,713.05)
The remaining entries all come in with varying exemptions under the 20,000 dollar range.
New to the Exemptions program this year was the introduction of Non Profit Seniors Housing, with four entries related to housing appearing in this years accounts.
Council approved the new changes as part of a Special Council session on September 5th.
At the September 11th council meeting, Corrine Bomben, the City's Financial Officer noted that this years list would provide for an increase of around 50,000 dollars of exemptions.
Two organizations, Friendship House and Prince Rupert Indigenous Housing, which last year were denied a place as part of the Exemption list have now been included as part of the exemption listings.
