Wolverine Marine Terminals begins Environmental Effects Evaluation process, plans for Second Open House for March 21

The next step related to the development of a Marine Fuelling Terminal in Prince Rupert is now underway, with Wolverine Terminals releasing their Draft Environmental Effects Evaluation and now accepting comments for the next thirty days.

The proposed development of the refuelling service is subject to an EEE under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, with the Draft Document now available online (see copy here) a hard copy version of the Evaluation is also available at the Prince Rupert Interpretive Centre.

The 117 page Evaluation document covers the full scope of the project and includes a large volume of photos, charts, schematic drawings and other visual presentations to provide for a good overview of what the project intends to provide and how it will stage on the Prince Rupert waterfront just to the south of the Westview Pellet Terminal.

As we noted back in September, the Wolverine proposal would see the marine fuel arrive by rail car and then be transferred to a fuel barge located on the Prince Rupert Waterfront, with the fuel barge serving as the distribution point for the large cargo vessels that call on Port of Prince Rupert's various terminal facilities.

During their introduction of the project last fall, Calgary based Wolverine noted that with the introduction of marine fuelling operations, the Port of Prince Rupert will become a full service port capable of supporting capacity for growth.

As part of their environmental process, the public can review their documentation and submit comments towards the proposed development, with the deadline for those submissions at 5 PM on April 11th.

Serge Bisson, President of Wolverine Terminals made note of the ongoing engagement process that the company has embarked on as they look to move their project forward in Prince Rupert.

"We're continuing to gather public input to help us identify, assess and mitigate potential impacts of this important project for Prince Rupert ... We've received valuable input that has contributed to the draft Environmental Evaluation. We are now following up to provide the public with an update and another opportunity to comment on the project"

The Wolverine CEO also outlined his confidence in their project planning and the opportunity it will bring to expand the potential for the Port of Prince Rupert.

"We're confident this project will be built and operated safely and we'll collectively achieve our goal of making the Port of Prince Rupert a full service port capable of supporting capacity for growth"

In addition to the online material, Wolverine has scheduled its second Open House related to the project, taking place on Wednesday, March 21 from 4 until 8 PM at the Crest Hotel.

Should their application prove successful, Wolverine expects a regulatory decision in mid 2018, with construction of the terminal location planned for early 2018.
