City Council Preview: Monday, March 12, 2018

Prince Rupert City Council comes together tonight for their final
meeting for February.

Judging by the brevity of the official Agenda for tonight's Prince Rupert City Council session, unless the public arrives with a helpful list of questions for civic officials, the members of Council may bring in tonight's regular public session in record time.

While the Agenda lists the various segments related to this evening's work, other than the Budget discussion notes, there are no actual items listed as up for discussion, something which could see Mayor Lee Brain reading out the opening notes and then asking for closing comments from council members almost all in the same breath.

The time to watch for  from Council when it comes to wrapping up work quickly, is the eighteen minute mark from the January 15th session,

One item that is noted for discussion on the night, is a review of the City's proposed 2018 Budget and the opportunity for the Public to provide comments related to Chief Financial Officer Corinne Bomben's financial plan for the year.

That public comment period will come at the beginning of tonight's session which starts at 7PM.

Council Members will also meet in a Closed Session at 5 PM, with Council choosing to close the doors for the following criteria: negotiations and related discussions respecting the proposed provision of a municipal service that are at their preliminary stages and that, in the view of the council, could reasonably be expected to harm the interests of the municipality if they were held in public.
