The first step towards securing new 10 year contracts for highway maintenance across the province is underway, with the British Columbia Government providing a background update on their plan to put Request for Proposals out for tender for the first three of the provinces 28 contracted service areas.
The notice, which was published on Monday, has listed Service Area 24 - Lakes which serves the Bulkley Valley as one of the three RFPs currently up for tender.
Background the process can be reviewed here.
Further information on the nature of the bid process and what the Ministry is looking for can be found from the video below, which provides for a full review of the procurement process.
The Request for proposals for the remaining Service Areas that are up for renewal will be posted and awarded before the existing maintenance contracts expire during the course of 2018 and 2019, with the final RFP to be posted and awarded in 2021.
The length of the contracts to be awarded by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure will be for a Ten Year Term, with an optional Five Year Extension. The extended period for the contract process is designed to provide for continuity of services and extended labour peace.
There has been no indication to this point as to when the contracts for the maintenance services for the Terrace/Skeena, North Coast or Haida Gwaii regions will be listed as up for tender.
The expiry dates for existing contracts are:
Bulkley Valley -- August 31 2018
North Coast/Haida Gwaii -- September 30 2018
Skeena -- April 2019
Nechako -- May 2019
