West Jet expands its flight options to and from Vancouver; with Prince Rupert still off the travel itinerary

Getting to many Canadian destinations with WestJet is easier than ever now, with the airline announcing a number of additions to its schedule yesterday, increasing its service out of three major gateways, with the Vancouver hub receiving 60 additional flights per week.

In a wide ranging roll out of new flight options for Canadians, including expanded service to France and the United Kingdom, the Vancouver hub claimed a significant stake to a number of flight additions to Canadian and British Columbia destinations.

However, those with hopes of seeing the popular airline begin service to Prince Rupert will be disappointed to learn that YPR did not make the list of locations that will be served by the latest expansion to the West Jet schedule,.

That means that the Terrace airport will continue to serve as the only regional access to the growing flight options for the ever expanding airline.

There was some disappointment for the Terrace airport though from yesterday's announcements, as there was no increase to flight frequency between Vancouver and Terrace, and the recently suspended flight between Terrace and Calgary still remains off the timetable for what seems to be the foreseeable future.

You can review the full listing of announcements from West Jet here.

With the latest review of the West Jet itinerary, Prince Rupert for now remains a one airline town, with the existing Air Canada service out of the Digby Island airport.

The next aviation note to watch for is what West Jet does with its new connector airline service WestJet Link, they introduced that concept in November of last year.

That service features a list of communities to be served by the new venture with Pacific Coastal Airlines, to this point however the destinations map does not include plans for a Prince Rupert service.
