City Council Preview, Monday, September 12, 2016


With Council members preparing to pack their bags for the annual journey to UBCM later this month, the only regular City Council session for September takes place tonight, with only a few topics of note for Council members to turn their attention towards.

Among the items up for discussion tonight, a report on some planned outdoor enhancements planned for the Prince Rupert Hotel in the downtown area of the city.

As well Council will make their recent review of ice fees from last weeks Special Council session official, as they provide final reading for changes to the Recreation fees Bylaw, Council will also review the Permissive Property Tax Exemption list for 2017-2019 at tonight's council session.

The public will also have an opportunity for some community engagement with the monthly Committee of the Whole Session, where residents can bring comments, or concerns to the attention of City Council members.

Below we'll highlight the different elements of this evenings work from the Regular session Agenda, for further background on each item, the page number from the Agenda is listed in red.

The Evening begins with the Committee of the Whole session and the public comment period that it offers up to residents of the community.

The Regular  Council session starts off with the adoption of agendas and minutes.

Petitions and Delegations  and any Unfinished Business is then up next on the Agenda.

The night moves forward with Reports and Recommendations

Report from the City Planner on a development Permit application from the Prince Rupert Hotel -- Council will receive an overview of the planned work on the exterior of the downtown hotel. (see page 12 of  the Agenda)

Correspondences for Action and any Resolutions from Closed meetings

Bylaws mark the next item of the Agenda on the night and makes for a short list of items to be addressed.

Report from the Director of Recreation and Community Services regarding Recreation Fees and Charges  -- Council will look to provide final approval and adoption of the revised fees schedule delivered at last weeks Special Council session  (see page 21 of the Agenda)

Report from the Chief Financial Officer regarding the 2017- 2019 Permissive Property Tax Exemption Amendment bylaw -- The City's Financial Officer will deliver a report outlining the list of properties under consideration for Property Tax Exemptions over the next two years (see page 41 of the Agenda)

The evening then moves on to Additional Items from Council members, as well as Reports, Questions and Inquiries from Members of Council.

Council members will also offer up any items or concerns that they have for consideration on the night.
