Prince Rupert has made the short list of seven communities in British Columbia that will be competing as part of provincial initiative, designed to recognize the municipality or First Nation community that has reduced the cost and complexity of doing business in the province.
The Open For Business Awards will recognize those communities that best demonstrate that the are working within the province's Spirit of Small Business Accord.
If successful when the winners are announced on September 22nd, The City of Prince Rupert will receive $10,000 dollars to support the growth and success of local small business.
Prince Rupert is in the running for this years award with, Abbotsford, the City of Langley, the Nisga'a Nation, Sidney, Surrey, and the Tsawassen First Nation. The final list of seven was pared down from a list assembled from all eight of British Columbia's economic regions and included fourteen new community applicants.
The winning community will be announced at this years annual UBCM conference in Vancouver
