In an announcement today, BC Ferries introduced two new fare choices for those travelling the major routes between Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island.
The new fares which go into effect tomorrow, will first be of benefit for those who continue to travel for essential reasons and once the government lifts its recommendations on travel will be of benefit for those looking to expand their horizons beyond their immediate bubbles.
“Our routes between Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island account for about 60 per cent of overall ferry traffic, so we are introducing our new fare choices on these routes first. When the Province lifts essential travel orders, these fare options will provide our customers more value, flexibility and certainty. They will also help spread traffic across the day, reducing sailing waits at popular times.” -- Mark Collins BC Ferries' President and CEO
The fare regimen for the highly travelled southern routes have limited availability and can be used on select sailings.

So far, there is no indication from BC Ferries towards any timeline, or plans fort that matter, to provide for some fare Saver options for the Northern Routes.
Something that may offer some relief from the cost of travel in and out of the Prince Rupert hub to Haida Gwaii, the Central Coast, or Port Hardy.
The current charge for a transit from Prince Rupert to Port Hardy for a car and one passenger is just over 400 dollars.
The same transit to Haida Gwaii comes with a cost of just under 150 dollars
