1-866-481-2175 -- Phone Lines Open Friday for Prince Rupert Community wide vaccination Program

Prince Rupert and Port Edward residents will have a special phone number available Friday morning to book their appointments for the community wide Vaccination program,

The number to mark down for use being 1-866-481-2175.

The number was released today, as Northern Health prepares for the large scale project to ensure that every resident 18 years and up is vaccinated during the course of this month.

As we outlined yesterday, the vaccination program will take place in groups and so to will the appointment taking with the schedule for calls to the appointment line as follows:

The clinic for residents of Prince Rupert and Port Edward will take place at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre, the vaccination program will run from March 15th to April 1st.

As to which vaccine will be provided to Prince Rupert/Port Edward residents Northern Health notes in one of their social media messages in Prince Rupert,  that there are two vaccines in the BC Immunization plan, Pfizer and Moderna that could be used for the North Coast.

Though it would seem more likely to be the Moderna version to be used in the upcoming clinic owing to the storage capabilities it comes with.

Phase 2 of B.C.’s Immunization Plan relies heavily on the Pfizer and Moderna Vaccines. These two vaccines will be at the centre of the strategy in Phase 2, because they are very effective for use in older people. While we don’t know yet exactly which vaccine will be going to your community, we can say that people will be offered the best vaccine available for their demographic, giving considerations for age, safety, location, availability, and so on. More information will be coming, as more supply of different types of vaccine become available.

More on the COVID-19 immunization plan can be reviewed here.

Yesterday, Dr Jong Kim, the Chief Medical Officer for Northern Health noted that Prince Rupert has a high COVID-19 case rate and high posivity rate, that has not seen improvements in recent weeks, compared to what is happening elsewhere.

"Quickly vaccinating the entire community is a great way to protect everyone in Prince Rupert and keep them safe"
