Special online session for SD52 tonight providing for a review of plans for spending of Federal restart funding

Parents, guardians, teachers and staff of SD52 and any interested observers can learn more about how the Prince Rupert School District plans to spend it's first instalment of Federal School Restart money tonight, with the School District hosting a special Board meeting starting at 5PM.

The meeting as it was for last weeks first public session of the year, will be conducted by Zoom, with the link for the session available here.

Earlier this week, as part of our review of that first meeting of the Board we took note of the federal funding announcement, which will see the Board receive 690,000 dollars this year from the Federal government, part of the relaunch of the schools across Canada.

At last weeks meeting, the Board advised that they would be preparing a plan for the spending of that money, tonight provides the look at their work to date.

Among the areas that the School District had identified towards allocating the funding are Learning Resources and Support, Education Program delivery, Mental Health Supports, Technology and areas related to Cleaning and implementing the SD52 Safety Plans.

The full overview of the plan which is included as part of tonights Agenda, can be viewed below:

How the School District plans to spend the federal money, particularly in areas of School safety has been one of a number of concerns expressed by members of the Prince Rupert and District Teachers union in recent weeks.

The themes from a number of the local teachers can be found as part of the ongoing dialogue of social media, with the #bctf and #bced twitter feeds, featuring some familiar names providing their view of the ongoing concerns over British Columbia education.

Another twitter feed #BCEdChat also explores themes on education in BC.
