Port Edward looks for Bids for Municipal engineering and public works consulting services

The District of Port Edward is looking to seek out some consulting assistance when it comes to future planning for engineering and public works projects, with the District Council posting a call for Bids from interested groups to the BC Bid website.

The plan ahead is for the District to put in place two five year non-exclusive contracts to provide the services, with the successful firms expected to start work as early as March of this year.

District officials are looking at two separate contracts, but note that they will consider receiving one proposal for both service areas, should the applying firms demonstrate expertise in both disciplines.

The prospective for would be applicants highlights some of the key elements that Port Edward will consider when they look through the submissions.

It is the intent that the successful firm(s) will be asked to complete all of the municipal engineering projects but exclusivity can not be guaranteed as large projects must be tendered to ensure cost effectiveness. The successful firm will perform our Engineer of Record function and lead estimating and project management for capital projects. The District also requires planning support for general municipal purposes including such activities as mapping, bylaw advising and development planning.

The also make note of the relatively new water treatment and wastewater systems in the community and the need for expertise in those fields, as well as to how the successful firm or firms will assist in the planning and implementation of a range of projects.

With fairly new and advanced water treatment and wastewater systems, firms should have experience designing and advising on both. The successful firm will assist District management in administration, planning and implementation of capital works projects and our core services. The District has had a long standing relationship with an engineering and planning firm and this is the first time such an RFP has been advertised but it is expected this will be common practice moving forwards to ensure the best service and value are provided.

The District also includes a list of the Capital Projects ahead for Port Edward, allowing a glimpse fo the bidders as to some of the work set for the future.
