CN Rail has provided the details of a five year Pest Management plan to be implemented on Railway right of way from Prince George to Prince Rupert |
CN Rail has provided a fairly expansive overview of their Pest Management Plan for the next five years in the Northwest, with the railway delivering a 32 page document that charts the course of their efforts to take place from 2018-2023.
The details of their planned work were recently posted to the railway website, which offers the glimpse of the extensive work ahead starting in September of this year, set to take place along the Railway right of way from Prince George to Prince Rupert as well as along spur lines across the Northwest.
The introduction to the Pest Management Plan identifies the geographic boundaries for the Plan, as well as the terms of the PMP which will be in place for a period of five years.
The remainder of the document is divided into Four other segments which include:
Purpose, Objectives, Reasons
The Pest Management Program
Operational Information
Environmental Protection Strategies and Procedures
The work that is planned will include a range of methods including hand removal and cutting, weed trimming, mowing and brush cutting and use of Chain saws.
As well, part of the PMP will make use of pesticides and CN has listed the range of pesticides that they may make use of as part of their program over the next five years.

CN has also provided an overview as to how they may make use of those pesticides as part of the program.

One area of their past management programs that has proven to be somewhat controversial has been the work that takes place near water and fish environments and the latest PMP makes note of their efforts and strategies for work in those areas.

Local environmental groups found much to fault with CN's previous approaches to their spraying program and have already been raising concerns about how they may plan to do their Pest management program in the future.
