Dig deep, and dig fast ... Tax payment time is almost here

PAYMENT DUE!! City of Prince Rupert Property Tax Deadline looms,
with final day for payment without penalty July 3rd.

Residents of Prince Rupert that have yet to pay their property taxes for the year, have but a few days left to make it to the deadline, with the final day for payment without penalty coming up on Tuesday, July 3rd at 4:30.

One option has already expired for residents, as those who pay their taxes at their local bank branch are now past the deadline date of June 26th.

Those making payment in person at City Hall (remember use the side door) can do so by way of cash, cheque, debit or money order.

You can stop into the City Hall offices from 9:30 to 4:30 PM.

A ten percent penalty is added on to current year taxes owing after July 3rd.

Property owners can claim the home owner grant online here.

The City offered up a friendly reminder of payment day through the City website this week, directing residents to the City's Property Tax information page for a tutorial on the property tax process.

Included in that information package is the video below, which provides further background on how the City collects the cash.

At a Special Council session in April, Prince Rupert Council formally approved the Budget for 2018 noting that there would not be an increase in property taxes for this year.

A rather wise move for the elected officials, with a Municipal election on the horizon this October.
