A proposed Elders/Seniors Residence for Green Street. which is making use of a traditional medicine wheel design will be the reviewed as part of a Public Hearing tonight at Prince Rupert City Council |
The next step towards a potential Elders/Seniors facility on the city's east side will be the feature item for this evenings Prince Rupert City Council Session, as the topic spans two elements of the work ahead for council members tonight.
The first step for the ambitious development project from the Metlakatla Development Corporation will come with a Public Hearing scheduled for the start of tonight's Council session, Council members and the public will hear more background on the proposed residences planned for the 700 block of Green Street.
The project is proposed for the old King Edward School land, which has been a long vacant patch of land between 7th Avenue and 8th Avenue East, the Elders/Seniors residence is one of a number of proposals that have been suggested for the lot over the last few years.
The current proposal from the Metlakatla Development Corporation would appear to be an answer to City Council's efforts to develop more housing stock for seniors in the community, as well as to repurpose the vacant lot for residential use.

Following the overview of what is planned for the site, residents will then be offered the opportunity to share any comments or concerns that they may have related to the proposal.
Once the Public Hearing is complete, Council will then address the proposal's merits as part of their Regular Council session, with a vote scheduled to provide for third reading for the proposal later in the evening.
You can review the full documentation related to tonight's Hearing from the City's Regular Council Agenda package for this evening, the report for council starts at page 11.
More documentation on the proposed development is also available from the Public Hearing Agenda for tonight's session.
