Those who wish to learn more about sustainable growth, or may have some ideas to share on the goal of a more sustainable planet will be heading to the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre tomorrow night, as the British Columbia Council for International Cooperation makes a stop in Prince Rupert as part of its current tour of Northern British Columbia.
The roundtable session which takes place in the Auditorium Friday goes from 6:30 - 8:30 PM and will feature a look at some of the progress on sustainable growth initiatives over the last year as part of the BC 2030 program.
The forums are being used by the organization to discuss how the United Nations Sustainable Growth goals can be implemented in local communities and how they work with local organizations to raise awareness on those plans.
In their travels around the province to this point, the organization has gathered information and created an online map, part of its Invisible Mosaic project. That resource reveals the work being done on sustainability issues across British Columbia and shares recommendations on how we can become a leader both at home and
abroad.
The map currently shows the work of the Kaien Anti-Poverty Society in Prince Rupert and the range of programs that they offer out of their McKay Street offices.
The Northern BC sessions will add to the information data bank and also provide some input for the BCCIC as they work towards the upcoming BC2030 meetings that will explore how the province can achieve those goals, using them as a blue print for future sustainability objectives.
Most importantly from the Northern engagement is the hope to create dialogue among those in attendance towards innovation and social organization on the themes that they review during the two hour discussion.
The Tour of Northern British Columbia begins tonight in the Bulkley Valley, with stops at the following locations along the way.
November 3 -- Smithers -- The Old Church 1st Ave -- 6:30-8:30 PM
