Affordable housing the theme for upcoming Prince George event

A look at the housing situation across Northern British Columbia will be the focus of an upcoming seminar in Prince George, as the UNBC based, Community Development Institute brings together a number of resources and features a range of speakers to address one of the key social issues for much of the region.

The one day conference set for November 18th at the University of Northern British Columbia will put the focus on identifying the housing opportunities in the region and creating an atmosphere to lead to the development of new ideas on the issues of housing.

Conference organizers are looking to bring together government officials, developers, municipal officials and non profit organizations to name a few, as they look to find solutions for communities that are facing challenges and change across Northern British Columbia.

On Thursday evening, the night before the conference, the CDI is hosting a Free Public Lecture for both participants in the conference and members of the public who wish to learn more about the challenges for housing in the communities of the region.

The conference of the 18th gets off to an early start at 8:30 with the official welcome, with workshops scheduled through the day leading to the 4 PM wrap up of the event.

Among the highlights for the day will be a review of the Northern BC Housing Study at 9 AM, the document is the first of its kind for the North and will profile the housing needs in ten communities, throughout the region, including Prince Rupert.

Housing concerns has been a topic that has made for much discussion at Prince Rupert City Council over the last two years, an issue that still is seeking a solution, as options for housing in the community continue to provide challenges for those most in need of accommodation.

A look back at some of the Prince Rupert issues of the last year can be reviewed here.
