With a number of months to spread the message of his private members bill now behind him, Skeena -Bulkley Valley MP Nathan Cullen will see if he has swayed his fellow MP's in the House of Commons today, as his Amendment to the Canadian Shipping Act comes up for a vote on the House order paper today.
The MP's bill, C-628 would enact a ban on crude oil supertankers on British Columbia's North Coast, while also instructing the National Energy Board to give more meaningful consultation to First nations and communities, as well as to assess value added job impacts, when considering energy projects like the Northern Gateway pipeline.
It will be put forward for vote shortly after 2:30 this afternoon Pacific time.
Mr. Cullen made his final comments in the House on the topic on Monday, providing his review of the path that his private member's bill has taken and some of the commentary and feedback he has received across British Columbia as he shared his proposal with residents around the province.
Therefore, I say to my Conservative colleagues from British Columbia that they clearly have a choice in a vote in 48 hours to decide who it is that they work for. Do they work for the current Prime Minister and his oil lobby friends, or do they work for the people who sent them to this place from British Columbia? -- A portion of Nathan Cullen's statement to the House of Commons on Monday, seeking support for his Bill C-648 which is up for vote today
