Nisga'a Nation members will elect a new government today (photo from NLG Website) |
British Columbians voted last month, Americans last night (though with final results still up in the air) and today members of the Nisga'a Nation will mark their X's to select their representatives for the Nisga'a Lisims Government.
Five candidates are seeking the top office of President, with four challengers looking to take the place of incumbent Eva Clayton.
A range of other offices are up for voting today as well, including Secretary Treasurer and Chairperson for council of Elders, as well as local office positions for the villages that make up the Nisga'a Nation.
On the North Coast voters will head for the voting booth to select the Nisga'a Urban representatives for Prince Rupert and Port Edward, with three candidates seeking the two available spots, two incumbents in Cliff Morgan and Juanita Parnell and challenger Farley Stewart.
The full list for all candidates in all positions can be reviewed here.
The location of the Prince Rupert/Port Edward vote has changed with balloting now taking place at the Highliner Plaza hotel on First Avenue West. The new venue had its test run yesterday with an Advance poll.
Today's polling opportunities got underway at 8AM and will continue until 8PM
More notes on the Nisga'a Nation can be found here.
