The province's Ferry transportation provider has announced that as of January 22nd, 2018 a Smoke Free environment will be in place at all BC Ferries locations, including terminals and vessels, it is a policy that also goes as far as to introduce a prohibition that will also include the interior of all vehicles that are on BC Ferry property.
The change in policy will include both passengers and those who are employed by BC Ferries, it also includes a prohibition on both tobacco and any other substance, including the use of e-cigarettes.
The advanced notice of the pending shift to the Smoke Free environment came over the summer, with the Ferry Corporation deciding to launch the new policy once the New Year travel season was out of the way.
The smoking prohibition for BC Ferries will extend to not only vessels, but terminal facilities and the parking area adjacent to the terminal |
Mark Collins, BC Ferries' President and CEO outlined some of the thinking from the Ferry Corporation behind the decision.
“This new policy supports the health and wellness of our customers and our employees by reducing exposure to second-hand smoke,” ... “The policy aligns with other transportation services and ensures everyone using our services can breathe smoke-free air.”
You can learn more about the new policy from this information sheet from BC Ferries.
