Tonight would appear to offer up a gentle return to work for Council members, with a fairly light Agenda to work with
Council will be asked to lend the City's support to the efforts to put forward the North Pacific Cannery Historical Site as a UNESCO heritage site, with the District of Port Edward providing Council members with some reading material on the theme.
Council will also outline its plans when it comes to improving accessibility at the city's Recreation facilities.
The topic of Seniors housing will get another review tonight, as Council considers a zoning amendment for a property on Chamberlain Avenue, with Macro Properties putting forward a proposal to convert the now closed Neptune Motor Hotel into affordable Seniors Housing in the community.
Council will also look to give themselves some time to formulate a policy on the issue of Commercial Marijuana operations, with Council members to review a report from staff that calls for a temporary prohibition of use for such operations in all zones of the city.

Council also will be holding a Closed Session for this evening starting at 5 PM, the city citing criteria from Section 90 of the Community Charter, noting that the public is to be excluded from those deliberations for the the following reason.
Personal information about an identifiable individual who holds or is being considered for a position as an officer, employee or agent of the municipality or another position appointed by the municipality.
As for the Regular Council session that starts off with the adoption of agendas and minutes.
Petitions and Delegations and any Unfinished Business open up the evening.
The main work for council on the evening begins with a review of a letter seeking the City's support in gaining UNESCO designation for the North Pacific Cannery site.

Resolutions from Closed Meetings. makes for the next item of the night, with Council set to announce some background on Grant Applications related to work at the Recreation Complex on the facilities Accessibility lifts. Monday night Council will hear the details to make use of $15,000 from Northern Development Initiative Trust and $30,000 from the Rick Hansen Foundations Access4All program.
Bylaws mark the next item of the Agenda on the night.
Report from the City Planner =- Regarding proposals to convert Neptune Motel on Chamberlain Avenue to the Hill Top Lodge - Housing for Seniors -- Council will hear background on the plan from Macro Properties to convert the now closed hotel into Seniors Housing units ( Page 13 of the Agenda package)
Report from the Civic Engineer -- Regarding Interim Zoning Amendment Bylaw to temporarily establish Commercial Marijuana Operations as a prohibited Use in All Zones. -- Council members will hear background from city staff on the current status of Federal Legislation related to Marijuana legalization plans, as well as to consider to temporarily prohibit Commercial Marijuana operations in All Zones while the city develops a plan on how they wish to approach the issue. The evening then moves on to Additional Items from Council members, as well as Reports, Questions and Inquiries from Members of Council.
Council members will also offer up any items or concerns that they have for consideration on the night.
