As the final part of Budget season for the City of Prince Rupert's financial department, tonight will see Council asked to receive a report related to city salaries and expenses for the year ending December 31st 2014.
The review, which is provided at this time every year provides a detailed list of the salary and expenses related to elected officials and a baseline salary notice for those employees of the City making over 75,000 dollars per year.
The documentation begins with a look at the City Council members, combining the financial notes of the members of the last Council of 2014 and the early figures for those elected in the November 2014 election.
The numbers for those elected in November will only take into account their salary and expenses for the month of December, a much more solid review of their financial salary and expenses will come this time next year, when the current council has served its first year of the four year mandate.
From the Council review, the total amount of remuneration and taxable benefits for the Mayor and Council provided for a total of $157,610 to the end of December 2014.
Of note of the review for current council members, is the expenses category for Mayor Brain, who has claimed 1,766 in expenses in his first six weeks as the City's top official, to go along with his base salary of 2,497 up to December 31st of 2014.
The look back to 2014 found Mayor Mussallem's total salary and expenses for 2014 reported at $60,648.
Next year will see Mayor Brain's salary level increased from that which Mayor Muassallem received, with Council having approved the Mayors salary increase of 17,000 dollars in May. That addition to the Mayor's salary will come through funding as part of the Planning for Major Projects Budget announced in late May.
As for City staff, the majority of the City's senior staff members can be found above, or close to the 100,000 dollar mark.
City Manager Robert Long claims the top spot of staff members at $191,298 in salary and benefits with an additional $26,825 claimed in associated Travel and other expenses.
The City's CFO Corinne Bomben made $121,877 with expenses of 11,000 dollars.
While Rory Mandryk, the Corporate Manager is listed just below the $100,000 mark with $94,194 in Remuneration and Benefits with $6,931 claimed in assorted expenses.
The remainder of the list covers a number of positions both unionized and civic staff that are exempt from union representation.
The City's Fire Department, Ferry staff and other Operations, Engineering and other civic staff make up a good portion of the 75,000 plus listings as well.
Overall from the list of 49 that is required to be made public, 21 employees of the City made over 100,000 dollars a year, 10 made over $90,000 with 10 also making over $80,000, 8 employees can be found on the list earning between 75,000 and 80,000.
The list of 49 adds four additional names to the 2014 listings of those who made over the $75,000 salary break point from the review of last year, that review found 45 on the Civic payroll making over 75,000 dollars for 2013.
The overall total of remuneration for those over that level came to $4,820,107 in 2014.
The remainder of the city staff positions are under the 75,000 dollar a year level and are not required to be listed as part of the final year end review. Those salary requirements came to a total of $7,764,4469.
One aspect of the civic payroll not part of the salaries review is that of the salaries required for policing in the city.
