Skeena-Bulkley Valley is looking for a bit of help from Prince Rupert Council as he seeks to steer his private members Bill C-628 through the Parliamentary process. The bill which was tabled in Parliament in September is titled An Act to Defend the Pacific Northwest.
In a letter from late February, the MP asked for the support of Council, looking to sign on the names of Prince Rupert council members to the campaign, as well as providing a copy of the petition for Council members to share with friends, family and colleagues.
The bill as described by the MP, is designed to protect British Columbia's pristine North Coast from the threat of oil supertankers and the Northern Gateway pipeline and supertanker project.
As well as seeking a ban on North Coast tankers, the bill would look to make the National Energy Board more accountable and would consider the need for energy security and the impact of projects on jobs in the region.
It also is described as complimenting Mr. Cullen's advocacy for a stronger, green economy.
A vote on his Bill is expected to be held at the end of this month.
A digital version of his petition can be found here.
You can review some of his material for Council from the city's website.
Mr. Cullen's letter and background items can be found in the Information for Council section, they are listed as item number 3.
