South Australia- The Pogues
The long running saga of John Doyle, British Columbia's Auditor General has come to an end. The now soon to be former Auditor General, has accepted a position with the State of Victoria in Australia, bringing to a conclusion the ham handed events surrounding his position with the British Columbia government.
The news broke on Monday evening that Doyle had decided hanging around BC just wasn't worth all the stress, having been the principal player in the messy and noisy discussions over an extension to his term of office in the province.
The New Zealand born Doyle had been in the news recently after the Christy Clark Liberal government first announced he would not be returning in his role as Auditor General, then changed direction and offered him a second term all be it a truncated version of it.
In between all of that there were reports of shouting matches, suggestions of snarky Liberal vendettas and of course a bit of unfinished business, that perhaps could have used some of Doyle's expertise.
Instead, he decided to reject the Christy Clark compromise solution, and in the midst of all that noisy background to his job offer, such as it was, he decided that perhaps it was time to seek other pastures and Australia seemingly was quick to pick up the option on the possible free agent auditor general.
The news was quick to be delivered Monday, the Times-Colonist of Victoria with a most helpful interview with the departing bureaucrat that more or less explains all of the drama of the last few weeks.
Other correspondents and columnists also weighed in with thoughts on the end of the tempest from Victoria.

Vaughn Palmer of the Vancouver Sun took to the twitter feeds to provide this impressive look at the work of the Auditor General, providing a helpful review of how effective he had been in office.
Twitter of course also found much to make of the announcement, with more than a few observers suggesting it was just another mess that the Liberals have inflicted upon themselves in recent times.
One of the best of the bunch, a retweet from Bill Tieleman which pretty well sums up some of the Liberal misfortune on a pair of files of late...
