City on the search for members for Small Business Advisory Committee

The new year will bring new opportunities for residents of Prince Rupert to help guide some policy for the City and one of the early projects to get a kick start in January will be Councillor Blair Mirau's main project of a Small Business Advisory Committee.

Mr. Mirau made a short mention of the Committee and the search for members at the last Council session and those thoughts have now been followed up with a call for Volunteers.

The Small Business Advisory Committee finally got off the launching pad earlier this year, though it did take a bit of time to finally kick start the initiative, with the path towards the panel of advisors first mentioned back in January of 2015.

The original theme however required a few makeovers through the last two years, but once in motion, the plans began to take shape as to how the City wished for the Project to move forward with the latest level of community engagement that they have in mind.

April 14 -- Small Business Advisory Council plans move forward
February 12 -- Councillor Cunningham looks to seek more engagement with labour on issues in Prince Rupert
February 12 -- Small Business Committee plans remain stalled, with a workshop the next stage to find momentum
January 29 -- Those Big Box themes start to percolate at City Council
January 28 -- Councillor Mirau's Small Business Advisory Committee Terms sent back to the writer's workshop
January 26 -- Council to receive Terms of Reference for Committees planned for 2016

With the terms of engagement now clarified and set, the main purpose for the Committee will be to provide City Council with recommendations on its policies when it comes to business development and growth in the community.

Members are appointed by the Mayor and Council and will meet on a bi-monthly basis. The city suggests that the ideal candidates for membership of the Committee would be owners or mangers of businesses, or business organizations operating in the City of Prince Rupert.
