Extra Sailings for the Northern Adventure

have been announced by BC Ferries
With the demand for travel spiking over the last few weeks, BC Ferries is looking to try and address some of the travel concerns for the North Coast and Haida Gwaii of late, adding on some additional sailings through the next two weeks.

Yesterday, BC Ferries acknowledged some of the issues related to the level of heavy and commercial traffic that has created for full sailings and left some travellers behind to await a future sailing.

Advising of the additional sailings, with the Ferry Corporation posting the schedule for the extra trips to their Service notices page.

The additions to the schedule will take place on Monday and Tuesday over the next two weeks, a solution that BC Ferries believes will take them to the launch of the summer season schedule on June 19th, when they believe the current transportation crunch will ease significantly.

The travel situation between Prince Rupert and Haida Gwaii has become a concern for those living on the Islands who have had to cancel appointments on the North Coast, or revise travel plans in recent weeks as space became hard to book for the regularly scheduled sailings.

Daybreak North outlined some of the concern of Haida Gwaii and Central Coast residents earlier this week with this review of the situation.

The Haida Gwaii Observer also offered up some background to the situation from the view of Islanders, with shipments of product a key concern of business interests on Haida Gwaii.

Further updates on BC Ferries service can be found from the BC Ferries website.
